Ergonomics (Product description and Idea Trigger)

i) Describe the product.
It has a stiff, yellow, wool like scrub on top of a sponge attached to a green handle to hold product. It can be used for cleaning dishes and such.
ii) What are the design considerations when designing this product? Will the sponge come out?  Is it nice to hold the handle?
iii) Would an elderly faced difficulty using this product? If yes, what are the difficulties that the elderly would face? It is hard for the elderly to apply enough pressure to clean the plates etc. plates.
iv) What do you think can be done to improve on the design of the product to suit the elderly? (Sketch the improved design in your sketchbook and take a picture of it. Post the improved sketch at the end of your post.)
A round rubber-coated handle to get a good grip and a wider scrub area.

Ergonomics 2

1. What is Ergonomics?
Ergonomics refers to designing work environments for maximizing safety and efficiency.
2. What are the 5 aspects of Ergonomics?
The five aspects are comfort, safety, ease of use, quality or performance and aesthetics.
3. For each aspects of Ergonomics, explain with an example of a product that is designed for the elderly, how the product meet that particular aspect of Ergonomics.
This 7 day pill organizers great for people who suffer from some memory loss to check that they have taken their medication on that particular day.

Ease of use : The latch can be opened easily. Pull the tab up and you can easily open.

Comfort: It is easy on the fingers as you do not have to pry open the lid. The letters are easy to read as it is big and you do not have to stain your eyes.

Safety: There are no sharp ends or anything on the object.

Quality: It seems to be well built with nice, hard plastic. The letters are nicely printed onto the product.

Aesthetics: It has a nice tinge of blue on it that makes it look good.

Ergonomics 1

1. Compare the 2 different workplaces, state your observations.
One room has bad ergonomics  as it has untidy desks, chair that allows only limited movement. The table is cluttered with workplace items. The other room  has a clean table, comfortable table. and a comfortable reclining chair. There are different devices that allow for extra space.
2. Which workplace is preferred? State with reasons why one workplace is preferred over the other.
Workplace 2. It is spacious, comfortable with good lighting. It is easy for somebody to maintain a good posture.
3. What are the considerations that should be taken into account when designing a workplace that is suitable for the user?
Ergonomics Issue#1: Comfort & Simplicity
Ergonomics Issue#2: Incorrect Height and Depth
Ergonomics Issue#3: Task Lighting
Ergonomics Issue#4: Freedom Of Movement
Ergonomics Issue#5: Prolonged laptop use
4. Why do you think that Ergonomics is important when designing?
The importance of a proper ergonomic position is more evident in the long term. If you're in a bad position where your neck is strained for one day, your body will recover. However, if you're in that position day after day for many years, you'll develop lasting problems.
